Children in Heaven (Ava’s Song)

Lyrics

steinlage_ava_l_portrait_full-2011-04-28
We thought you were ours to keep
So precious, Beautiful, So sweet
As you Hurt We hurt and as you died we cried
A gift from God above and its hard to let you go
So hard to let you go
But as we cry we know

Even God needs Children From the Heavens above
To play to laugh and to sing, listen to their voices ring
Although we hurt today, searching for the right words to pray
We know Even God needs Children in Heaven, Even God Needs Children in Heaven

As we sit, as we pray
Full of Questions full of Pain
We don’t understand His plan, Searching for the strength to stand
Life will Go on, but we’ll never forget, no we’ll never forget
And as we Cry we know

Even God needs Children From the Heavens above
To play to laugh and to sing, listen to their voices ring
Although we hurt today, searching for the right words to pray
We know Even God needs Children in Heaven, Even God Needs Children in Heaven

Even God needs Children From the Heavens above
To play to laugh and to sing, listen to their voices ring
Although we hurt today, searching for the right words to pray
We know Even God needs Children in Heaven, Even God Needs Children in Heaven

Ava we won’t forget you
No we’ll never forget you
But we have to let you go
I guess God needs you in Heaven

Reflection

A few years back a friend of mine who is also family, lost this precious little girl due to complications with an illness. She battled the illness for a long time and fought the good fight. As I understand it, the family was able to hold her as she died. The day after her passing was an emotional one for many, including me. All I could think about all day long was this little girl and her family. I tried to put myself in their shoes but it hurt too much to even think about. I was teaching at the time, and I took my guitar to work with me. During my lunch period and plan period, I wrote Ava’s Song. No doubt in my mind, Ava was there that day helping me, guiding me, inspiring me. Although the pain of losing her will never go away for her family and this entire community, I believe her song has at least helped them in the healing process.
A quote from Ava’s mother:
”Ava’s Song means so much to our family. For our family it is about a painful time in our lives, but it is also a song reminding us that God has a purpose for all of us and that this is not our home. Our daughter had a purpose here on Earth, and even though at that time it was hard to accept, we now realize that Ava had fulfilled God’s purpose, He needed her and so she was called back to her eternal home.”
